 | Making the case dualling the A30 |
 |
SIAN FLYNN, the prospective Conservative MP for North Cornwall, recently took visiting Shadow Minister for Transport Stephen Hammond MP to see for himself the pinch point on the A30 between Temple and Higher Carblake.
Speaking after the visit, Sian said: ‘The A30 Action Group first briefed me on the problems caused by the failure to dual this stretch of road nearly three years ago. They’ve done sterling work to keep the scheme alive. I wanted to make sure that another member of the Shadow Team was able to see for himself the problems, as Shadow Transport Secretary Theresa Villiers has already met the A30 Action Group.”
At present, Cornwall Council have offered to finance the preparatory works for this project, where much of the planning work has already been done, and the route is protected. However, the Department for Transport have indicated that it may be subject to further financial scrutiny and delay. It would appear that no decisions will be made before the General Election.
Sian said: “I came back from Launceston recently, and there was thick fog on this stretch of road. It’s easy to see why the dualling is needed, both for sound economic reasons which affect all of Cornwall, and because of the dangers of sudden weather problems up on the moor.
“No incoming Government is going to be able to make any cast iron spending promises, but when a Conservative Government gets the economy moving, and starts to tackle the structural deficit, I want to make sure that this scheme, which is important for the whole of Cornwall, is one of the first to be considered for highways capital spending’.
