SIAN FLYNN has spoken of her delight in accompanying Julie Girling, Conservative MEP for the South West region, to the Cornwall Cheese Show, held at the weekend. 

 The show, organised and run by the Cornish Guild of Smallholders (CGOS), gives local producers the chance to showcase some of the finest local produce on offer.

Sian, the Conservative Prospective MP for North Cornwall, said she arranged for Julie to visit the show to highlight the achievements and successes of local producers in the county.

Sian said: “Here in North Cornwall, there are some great businesses, who supply national supermarkets, and top restaurants.  CGOS have been hugely influential in helping first class local suppliers get their products into the wider market’.

CGOS founder Joy Cheeseman talked to Julie about the problems faced by small producers. 

She said: “Food labelling is one area where careless lawmaking can make life very difficult for small producers, so I was pleased to be able to talk to one of our MEPs, who could be influential in making sure that regulations from Brussels don’t undermine the ability of our producers to bring their products to market.”

Sian added: “This show proves that Cornwall can compete with the best, and I am committed to do everything I can to support local producers. 

“I’m really pleased that Julie has made an early visit to Cornwall, to see for herself both the quality of what is produced here, and to understand the issues that can make life more difficult.’
